DERO’s blockDAG has been mainnet since the Atlantis release in June of 2018. The DERO blockDAG enables the DERO blockchain to acheive high performance levels that are not available on any other cryptonote blockchain . Some of the features that the blockDAG brings to the DERO blockchain are 12 second blocktimes , minimum 75 Transactions per second , no chain splits , no orphan blocks and double spend immunity .
The DERO blockchain has acheived significantly higher number of transactions per second during stress test however, 75 TPS is a minimum for real world performance.
How is DERODAG different from a standard blockchain?
Chain splits get rejoined
If there is a chain split (soft fork) the blockDAG protocol will rejoin those two chains together. Blocks will be sorted including both chains and additional blocks will become the new height of both chains.
No orphan blocks
Blocks that normally would be rejected and invalid as orphans are accepted onto the chain. What would normally become orphans will become side blocks on the main chain. This is also helpful to miners as rewards are not lost on orphans, instead they still receive side block rewards .
Double spend immunity
If there is a transaction in more than one block, the DERO wallet will detect that and only accept the transaction once . This means that double spends are not possible , even when accepting all blocks onto the chain. This is all achieved client side and there has been a $5,000 bounty since June of 2018 to produce a double spend with DERO. To date, there still have been no successful double spends on the DERO blockchain.
You can see the DERO blockDAG live on the DERO Stats page .
